Environmental Policy (Statement of Intent)

Douglas Renovation Group is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its activities and to complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and best practice applicable to the construction and maintenance industry.

We recognise our responsibility to protect the environment and will take reasonable steps to prevent pollution, reduce waste, use resources efficiently and work in an environmentally responsible manner.

Scope

This policy applies to all work activities carried out by the business, including employees, subcontractors and any persons working on our behalf.

Responsibilities

Business Owner

Overall responsibility for environmental management
Ensure this policy is implemented and maintained
Ensure environmental risks are considered during planning of works
Review this policy periodically

Employees & Subcontractors

Follow the requirements of this environmental policy
Use materials and resources responsibly
Report environmental incidents, spillages or concerns immediately
Cooperate with management on environmental matters

Waste Management

We will:

Reduce waste generation where possible
Reuse materials where practical
Segregate waste where facilities allow
Dispose of all waste legally using licensed waste carriers
Retain waste transfer notes where required

Control of Pollution

We will take reasonable steps to prevent pollution by:

Preventing spillages of fuels, oils, paints and chemicals
Using drip trays and spill kits where appropriate
Storing hazardous substances securely
Cleaning up spillages immediately

Use of Materials & Resources

We will:

Order materials responsibly to reduce waste
Use environmentally friendly products where reasonably practicable
Minimise water and energy consumption
Switch off tools, equipment and vehicles when not in use

Noise, Dust & Nuisance Control

We will:

Minimise noise and vibration where possible
Use dust suppression or extraction methods
Restrict noisy works to reasonable hours
Consider occupants, neighbours and members of the public

Transport & Vehicles

We will:

Maintain vehicles in good working condition
Avoid unnecessary idling of engines
Plan journeys efficiently to reduce fuel consumption

Protected Environments & Wildlife

Where applicable, we will:

Avoid damage to trees, vegetation and habitats
Stop work and seek guidance if protected species are suspected
Comply with site-specific environmental requirements

Environmental Incidents

All environmental incidents or near misses will be reported
Appropriate action will be taken to prevent recurrence
Serious incidents will be reported to the relevant authority where required

Communication & Training

This policy will be communicated to all persons working on our behalf
Environmental awareness will be promoted during work activities

Policy Review

This Environmental Policy will be reviewed:

Annually, or
Following significant changes to work activities, or
After an environmental incident
